Rant [01 Jun 2007|01:55pm]

[ mood | peeved ]

Constructive criticism is the process of offering valid and well-reasoned opinions about the work of others, usually involving both positive and negative comments, in a friendly manner rather than an oppositional one. In collaborative work, this kind of criticism is often a valuable tool in raising and maintaining performance standards.

example: "Hey, since you are also healing you might want to lay off the DPS so you don't pull too much aggro."

Negative criticism offers no sugggestions for improvement and is said in a negative and unsupportive way. Nothing makes most people bristle more quickly than unfair, unskillful, or unsolicited criticism. Very little productivity will result when team members feel unskillful.

example: "Argh! Learn how to tank more than one target! On every pull, I end up tanking!"

Lets all remember this little lesson and treat our fellow players with respect. We were all n00bs once and with a little patience and teaching, can get closer to uberness.

Thanks for reading and happy questing.

Need volunteers- do you use social networking websites or a MMO? [09 Oct 2006|08:21pm]

Hey guys well yes I am in grad school and I've decided to do a major research paper on MMO's and social networking websites and how they affect our identities and also our awareness. I really need some people to participate in case studies which I am conducting in order to supplement my paper since this is a new area (relatively speaking).

So long of the short of it, I am going to create a survey online which I will need to be filled out 5 days a week for 2 weeks. The survey will be short and will just ask general questions about hours logged in game, and other pretty general questions. The surveys would only be 15-20 questions long (if that). As far as information about you all I would need to know is your geographic location, age, sex, hours logged each day (estimate).

I would REALLLLLLLY appreciate anyone volunteering to do this for me. Either contract me through this post or email me at firesparks8@verizon.net!

Thanks guyz/galz- lots of <3

I would really like to get as many people as possible from other countries!

For those interested and who call Tanaris home or second home, or third home XD I've created a community for it since there didn't seem to be one, and finding people for instances can be hard.

So if you want go to
wow_tanaris and sign up,I'd love to have, as i'm the only member as of yet XD i'm hoping by this, those who aren't guilds (like myself) can use it as a means to find others for instances and such.

Also, is tarted a PvP community recently for anyone interested... =)

For the Horde! [26 Jun 2006|09:53am]

So, In beta I played horde, but once release came, all my friends rolled alliance. I know, how could I call them friends if they roll alliance. I tried and tried to get them over to the dark side, but to no avail. They love their alliance. Since then, we've switched servers several times, taken breaks, and I've grown kinda tired of getting up into higher levels and then jumping servers to hang with them.

First post here, but lurked since the beginning. Lookin for a place to play horde with some mature players. Helpful, friendly, serious, but laid back at the same time. I'd highly prefer a normal or RP server(I like PVP, but I wanna do it on my terms and not constantly have to look over my shoulder)

/sniff I miss my orcs and trolls.

noob having problems at login [19 Jun 2006|08:57pm]

Not sure if this kind of thing is allowed here, but I'm at my wits end. I was hoping some of you could help me out with this really wierd problem I had after I installed WoW and patched for the first time. (Yeah, that means I haven't even started playing yet, so I'm a noob in the strongest sense.) It's a bit of an involved story, so help you guys could give me would be appreciated.

I installed WoW a few days ago, but I wasn't able to start it up because I apparently didn't have DirectX 9.0 installed. No big there; tracked it down, installed it, and all went well. I managed to start up the main client with no problems to speak of, logged in without a hitch, and restarted the client to patch, which is where I started having problems.

Once the client finished patching, I restarted like it asked, but now I have some really strange glitch that's been going on every 1/10th of a second or so, where the screen almost seems to split in half and gets some sort of kalaiedascope effect before going back to the normal screen. Best as I can tell, it has something to do with the fire animation in the background, but other than that I have no idea what's going on. Anybody have any advice to offer to a n00b?

I don't normally 'spam', but it's more news than anything else :) I'm a new DJ for a gamers/ geeks radio station, it plays mostly rock with the exception of a specialty show.

World of Roleplayers Proudly Presents Legends of Karinth!

Cerr and Nerissa had a chance to sit down with Muirdach, the Marketing Manager from Legends of Karinth and talk a bit about the popular MUD, what mudding is and where it came from. Tune in to Powerstation's High Voltage show on Saturday June 17th at 9pm to hear the interview.

...and if you ever want to hear me on air, my times are as follows:

Omicron's 2v2 Tourney on Staghelm [07 May 2006|11:06pm]

Tonight, Omicron (an alliance guild on Staghelm) hosted a 2v2 PvP tourney at the Gurubashi Arena. Myself, Mystickah (a level 60 MS Warrior) and Evdawg (a level 60 pally) entered. We were the only ones from our guild to do so, and one bad factor our guild was going for Domo tonight (which we didn't know would happen last week when we signed up, though they didn't down it yet).

There were 20 groups from horde and alliance side and they were organized by armor strength, T0, T1, and T2. T0 being all blues, T1 being a mix of blues and purples and T2 being mostly purples. We beat everyone that was T0 and T1. It wasn't until we got to another team of a warrior and a pally did we lose the round, and they were the first group we went against with T2 stuff. We lost for 3rd place against a horde T2 team as well. But we came in 4th place.

Check out the results HERE

I'm just really excited because our first fight was against 2 druids and even people in our guild were saying we wouldn't get past them, but we did!

Priest changes preview [03 Feb 2006|09:01am]

[ mood | excited ]

Eyonix noted it's Friday...

(Stolen from the thread on the Blizzard Forums)

As has been stated many times in recent posts, a number of improvements are being made to several priest talents and core abilities for the next content patch. Several of these changes are still in the testing process, and in some cases, under discussion - especially those relating to talents. What this means to the players is, the following details pertaining to upcoming change is not comprehensive, and intended primarily to serve as a sneak preview, and in a perfect world, satisfy some of your curiosity.

Too bad this world isn't perfect...

Greater Heal (and Heal starting from rank2) will receive a reduction to its casting time. Currently the spell is a 4 second cast. However, once patch 1.10 releases, the spell, from start to finish will cast in 3 seconds - (2.5 with talent improvement). This spell, along with the Druid's Healing Touch and the Shaman's Healing Wave will all receive an approximate 10% improvement to mana efficiency.

Holy Fire will no longer be a talent required ability. All priests, upon reaching the appropriate level will receive this spell as a core ability. In addition, this spell's casting time has been reduced from 4 seconds to 3.5. The appropriate talent improvement would bring this spell to a 3 second cast. This spell will also be considered holy damage, meaning, effects which improve holy damage will increase the damage of this spell.

Inner Fire is another core ability we're reworking. With the prevalence of wand-use amongst casters, we're not very pleased with the increase of attack power this spell provides and are looking to change Inner Fire so that it is more in line with the original concept behind the ability, i.e. a defensive/soloing spell.

Power Word: Shield is still undergoing testing. Basically, we're running the numbers of the final spell ranks and will likely make changes to its damage mitigation scaling.

Talents are where we're making the most significant changes, however, until the changes have been finalized there is little I'm going to be able to reveal. What I will state is that we're reorganizing and streamlining all three trees, with a particular emphasis on Holy and Discipline. Each tree will have anywhere from 1 to 4 brand new talents available. The focus of Holy will be in providing throughput improvement, such as offering benefits to healing and spell damage. Discipline will focus on staying-power, such as what you see from abilities that improve mana and mana regeneration. Shadow of course, will focus primarily on damage.

Priest class racial improvements are for the most part, complete yet undergoing testing. Until all of them are ready to be unveiled, I'm going to avoid providing specifics. I will try very hard to push out concrete details late next week, if possible.

A number of minor improvements and tweaks continue to be made as well, such as the increase we're making to Prayer of Fortitude's range and radius, the overall reduction to Smite's mana cost, the addition of group buff versions for Divine Spirit and Shadow Protection, and much more. In addition, I can promise that I'll push for the talents to go live on the talent calculator the moment that they've been finalized, which hopefully won't be long now.

World of Discrimination. [28 Jan 2006|12:08pm]

Blizzard Games, the maker of World of Warcraft, has cited a player for harassment for trying to recruit a GLBT-friendly guild.

Sara Andrews posted the following to a WoW forum, seeking members for a GLBT friendly guild.

"OZ [the name of her guild] is recruiting all levels ¦ We are not 'GLBT only,' but we are 'GLBT friendly'! (guilduniverse.com/oz)"

What she got back was a handful of rude and insensitive replies, followed by a citation by Blizzard for "Harassment - Sexual Orientation," which defined in the games' "Terms of Use" as "language which insultingly refers to any aspect of sexual orientation pertaining to themselves or other players."

In her email reply to Blizzard, Andrews explained that there was an obvious misunderstanding and that she was not insulting anyone, but merely recruiting for a "GLBT friendly" guild.

Blizzard's justification, in a response to an email to her, was, "we . . . feel that the advertisement of a 'GLBT friendly' guild is very likely to result in harassment for players that may not have existed otherwise."

In other words, Blizzard believes that she harassed herself and others by trying to create a GLBT-friendly guild that does not tolerate harassment against players based on their sexual orientation, simply because there is a possibility that by creating a GLBT friendly guild, there's a possibility that it *could* (not will) result in harassment.

I'm sorry, but this simply does not correspond to their definition of what constitutes this kind of harassment. It is in itself an act of harassment, in that it prevents players from creating guilds where they will not be harassed... and I'm not just saying this because I believe it is a horrible, officious, discriminatory policy. I'm saying it as someone who spent years overseeing LiveJournal's abuse policies, both interpreting *AND* creating the policies involved. It's bad policy and a misinterpretation of both the letter and the purpose of the policy involved, and I believe its up to the players to see to it that Blizzard changes their policy on this matter.

My advice? Existing guilds who give a crap should post to the forums protesting this policy, and declare themselves to be a GLBT friendly guild, supportive of all of their members, and opposed to discrimination based on sexual orientation. Individual players should post to the forums opposing this decision too, and declare themselves a GLBT friendly player, opposed to discrimination based on sexual orientation too.

In short, if Blizzard wants to cite one person for declaring themselves to be GLBT-friendly, let them cite a thousand. Make Blizzard deal with the flood of criticism and enforce their stupid policy. It's the least they can do, really.
